The Integrative Manual Therapy™ Massage Therapist acknowledges that tight tissues and structures remain in such states due to the protective nature of any given system. When a structure senses or interrupts any information that reflects the potential for injury, that tissue or structure will assume a protective posture. In the case of a muscle, it will shorten and tighten, as will a ligament or tendon. Fascia will stiffen and harden as will bone and blood vessels will become rigid and inflexible.
